"Robert Johnson is considered the most famous of the Delta blues musicians", says Harold McMillan, Director of Diverse Arts and the curator of the Austin Blues Family Tree. "Much of what we know about Johnson comes down through myth and a few recordings." He is considered by some to be the "Grandfather of Rock-and-Roll", his vocal phrasing, original songs, and guitar style have influenced some of popular music's most famous guitarists and songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones, The Band, Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton, who called Johnson "the most important blues musician who ever lived".........more info.

where: Antone’s 213 W. 5th St Austin, TX
$3 cover A Blues bargain!
The Austin Blues Society Showcase Series will introduce new or under-exposed blues performers in an accessible, early evening format.
By presenting youthful bands, artists new to Austin, crusty veterans, and acts that usually keep to one area of town, we hope to bring new fans to blues musicians and vice versa. Each of these shows, scheduled the third Tuesday of each month, allows two area blues acts the opportunity to strut their stuff at Antone’s, Austin’s world famous blues venue.
Check 'em out ahead of time on the web! This month's band's are:
May 20th
7:00 PM - Nathan Bryce & Loaded Dice
8:00 PM - Carson Alexander
June 17th
7:00 PM - All In Blues Band
8:00 PM - John Gaar Band
This monthly event hosted by ABS Events Chair Spencer Thomas will raise funds for ABS participation in the International Blues Challenge and cover travel costs of the winning artist's trip to Memphis to represent the Austin Blues Society in the IBC. Our goal is to sponsor a blues band, a solo/duo act, and possibly a third division for young blues artists.
